Key information

Routines

Please remember we have indoor PE on Monday's and outdoor PE on Wednesday's so please make sure children come to school in their PE kit ready to get active.

The only way you become a reader is by reading!

We expect the children to be reading their phonics book at least three times per week at home and for it to be recorded in their reading diary. Please make sure their books and diaries come into school on a Monday ready to be checked and will be sent back home on a Tuesday. In addition, reading for pleasure can include a range of genres such as books, comics, newspapers, fiction, non-fiction or whatever takes their fancy.  We just want it to be a pleasurable time for them and to develop a love of reading.  We really enjoy listening to the children's conversations about the books they are enjoying at home.

Home learning

Phonics home learning books are sent home every Tuesday. Each week we will send your child home with the graphemes (written letters) and corresponding phonemes (sounds) that they have been learning in school. Please return these on a Monday to ensure they remain up to date with phonics learning.

For maths, children will use Numbots. Numbots helps consolidate their basic maths skills.

Home learning grids are sent home at the beginning of each term with an expectation that a minimum of 5 different pieces are completed each half term so get creative!

Learning Powers

At Offmore we believe in giving our children the skills they need to be enthusiastic, positive and successful learners.

The children can earn points for using their learning powers. These include:

Busy Bee power- given for active learning, such as being focused.

Unicorn powers are given for playing and exploring, using a 'can do' approach.

Magnifying powers are given for creating and thinking critically, such as using learning walls independently to further own learning.
