The Heart of our Curriculum
The curriculum at Offmore Primary School has been developed over the past three years and focuses upon the true value of learning; the application of skills through real contexts to enable each and every child to develop their Heart as a Learner.
As a school team we have developed the core attributes of a reader, writer and mathematician and have established these into our Heart of … documents (please see the links below to access these). These enable our children and staff to look deeper into the skill set they have and translate the skills they have into life long learning habits that will enable each and every child to seek to be the best they can be.
Within this framework we encourage our children to have high aspirations and strive for the best. We want our children to be responsible and to have a clear understanding of themselves within each curriculum area. By the time they finish their journey at Offmore Primary School we hope to enable them to move onto the next phase of their lives knowing the challenges they need to seek next.
Through the creation of a topic rationale we are able to link the key next curricular steps with an exciting and stimulating topic context, which the children become fully absorbed in using a cross-curricular approach. This approach is designed to make learning relevant and meaningful for our children.
We use a number of different approaches to explore and deliver the topics to ensure we enable our children to develop all the skills they need to be confident and successful learners. All our children are involved in the planning stage of new topics as we value their ideas and contributions; we believe that children learn best when they are able to steer and direct their own learning. We want our children to be inquisitive and passionate about their learning which will become a lifelong attribute.
Promoting British Values
At Offmore Primary School, we recognise the multicultural, multi-faith nature of the United Kingdom and understand the crucial role our schools play in promoting these values. As a school that serves a wider community that is diverse, we take our responsibility to promote community cohesion, generate a respect for difference and individual rights seriously. We believe it is incredibly important that these British Values permeate through all aspects of school and children will encounter these values throughout our everyday school life. Please click on the following link, British Values, to find out more about our core values and the approaches we take to ensuring they are incorporated in to all elements of out curriculum and school life.
